Alfred W. Krueckeberg, 82, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday May 12, 2007 at Covington Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center where he was a resident since June 2004. Born July 11, 1924 in Decatur, he was the son of Martin and Laura Krueckeberg. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 28, 1943 and was a water tender 2nd Class and served on the USS Chew DD106 and the USS Goodhue APA 107 and was honorably discharged on April 14, 1946. He was then recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict on November 9, 1950 and served on the USS White Marsh LSD-8 and was honorably discharged November 19, 1952. He was the recipient of the American Area Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star. He worked for Fort Wayne Newspapers for 45 years and retired in 1988 as a photo engraver. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Graphic Communications International Union and loved suckers and cheese puffs. His hobbies were reading, playing casino slots, working in the garden and his yard, remodeling projects, watching NASCAR and Indy racing and fishing and hunting. He is survived by his loving wife of over 57 years, Margie L. Krueckeberg, son, Scott (Glenna) Krueckeberg; daughters, Janice (fianc, Chip Neer) Rowold, Ruth (Greg) Hernandez, and Linda Buell; brothers, Otto and Edward Krueckeberg; sisters, Flora Crawford and Armilla Vorich all of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Wagner, Clara Latham, and Sophie Gardner. Funeral Services 1 p.m. Wednesday with calling one hour prior at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd.
