Chauncey "Al" Alva Huntington, 85, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Heritage Pointe in Warren, Indiana. Born December 9, 1923 in Rensselaer, Indiana, he was the son of Henry J. and Lura (Yoeman) Huntington. He was an expert marksman, WWII Army veteran and awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the Battle of Ryukyus in Okinawa. His radioing of an incoming Kamikaze plane, shot down by American fighter pilots, saved the lives of many American soldiers. He worked as a Sales Manager for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company. He managed the sales and service of industrial uniforms and linens for Clean Wear and Midwest Towel Corporations. He retired working as a Security Guard at Do-It-Best. He grew up farming in Whitley County and as an outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling, rock hunting and was responsible for saving the life of a small child from drowning. He was a member of the Three Rivers Gemological Society and Waynedale Kiwanis and volunteered as a Park Naturalist at the Lindenwood Nature Preserve. He is survived by his Daughter, Diane Weating (Doug); Sons, Stan and Rick Huntington; Grandson, Christopher Ford (Emily); and Sister, Hope ("Doris") Miller of Longwood, Florida. He was predeceased in death by his Son, Steve Huntington.
