Obituary

On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Anthony "Tony" Milewski went home to his Lord and Savior peacefully in his sleep at home in the loving care of his family.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, May 30, 1942, he was a die-hard Steeler's fan. There, he repaired and drove tractor-trailers across North America, igniting his love for travel and road trips. He gave his best advice and musical performances from the driver's seat of the family car. He sang along with Neil Diamond until the very end, while his wife, children, close relatives, and friends shared the privilege of keeping him comfortable and surrounded until he was sure they could manage without him.

Tony married the love of his life, Linda (Elward) Milewski in April of 1974, and they moved to her hometown of Fort Wayne, IN in 1979. He was an accomplished mechanic and worked his way up to manager of four shops throughout his career. He spent 21 loyal years at North American Van Lines until his (first) retirement. Not quite done bossing people around and busting chops for a living, he then worked for Bob Thomas Ford at both the W Jefferson and Illinois Rd locations. He made lifelong friends at his jobs, his parish Queen of Angels Catholic Church, his bowling league, in his cherished neighborhoods, at the Ft Wayne Parks and Rec Senior Community Center, and everywhere he went.

Tony thrived on human connection, was outgoing and gregarious. If he gave you a hard time, you knew he really liked you. He is remembered for his big laugh and generous heart. Tony was relentlessly supportive and giving; his family, friends and community mourn him deeply. If something needed to be done, a problem needed solved, or if he had an extra dollar , Tony helped. In fact, he would be angry with us for sharing all the selfless acts he committed during his 79 years, so those stories will stay at the Milewski family kitchen table, and in the hearts of those who encountered him…

We have all been imprinted with the spirit of Tony Milewski. We are lucky to have had him, and to have basked in his aura of adventure and mischief! He will be missed. He will be remembered. He will be talked about with laughter and pride. He was ours, and we will forever carry him with us.

Tony is survived by his beloved wife, Linda (Elward) Milewski of over 47 years; son Christopher (Debi) Milewski; daughter Kimberly (Moses) Milewski; grandchildren Sean Luthy and Alexis Milewski; sister-in-law Paula Elward; nieces and nephews Bernard, Michaelene, Pamela, and Michael Kubit, and Erin (Andrew) Mason; great-nephew William Mason; known exclusively as "The Godfather" to his goddaughter Mandy DeRyk Wilson; and loved as his own: son Bryan Locker, daughters Carrie (Locker) Graf, Courtney Mahoney, and grandson Ayden Murphy.

Family will receive friends from 4:00pm - 8:00pm Thursday, September 16 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home in Fort Wayne.  Funeral mass will be 11:00am Friday, September 17 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, also in Fort Wayne.  Please feel free to dress casual.
