Astine Lavender, 83, passed away Sunday June 12, 2011 at her home. Born November 25, 1927 to the late Elihue and Maude Brooks in Marion Alabama. Surviving are daughter, Alda Spidell, Ft. Wayne, IN, grandson, Renaird Sanford, Muncie, IN, granddaughter, Quanica Hicks, Ft. Wayne, IN, great-great-grandson, Zion Ahmari Sanford, brother, Ft. Wayne, IN, Thomas Brooks, Ft. Wayne, IN, sisters, Lucille Hickman, Ft. Wayne, IN and Fannie Adams, Ft. Wayne, IN, Astine was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Lavender, daughter Idella Hicks, grandson, Herbert L. Hicks, special son, Julius Banks and 17 brothers and sisters. Services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church 2200 Smith St. with calling 12 noon to 1:00 p.m.. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Covington Memorial Funeral Home assisting family with arrangements.
