Bernadine O. Rice, 103, died Tuesday July 22, 2014. She was born April 6, 1911 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Orla E. and Theresa C. "Gavin" McCutcheon. She was the owner and operator of Ideal Gifts as well as Johnny Appleseed Motel in Fort Wayne. Bernadine also was a department manager and buyer for Franks Dry Goods and Franks Used Appliances in Fort Wayne.

Surviving is her daughter, Nancy (Bill) Schmidt, and step-daughter, Lona Belle Taylor, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Rice, 2 sons, Donald and Edwin Teeters, 5 siblings, Orla Jr., George, Robert, Edward McCutcheon and Anita Harmon and granddaughter, Moni Jeffrey.

Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Fort Wayne with calling 1 hour prior to service. There will be calling on Friday July 25, 2014 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to H.O.P.E. for Animals or Heartland Hospice. Entombment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.
