Betty Ann Kern, 93, passed into the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by her family on Monday, February 19, 2024 at home in New Tripoli, PA. Betty had lived in Pennsylvania with her son and daughter-in-law for the past 16 years, but was a proud native of the state of Indiana all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Peter J. Mercier and Anna ( Bex) Norman of Bedford, IN.. She was a 1947 graduate of Bedford High School and attended her 50th reunion in 1997. Betty had many loves in her life, but there were five primary ones; her loving and devoted life partner, James "Jim" Kern, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing the organ, which she did in various churches for the past 60+ years, cats, especially her beloved "Sugar" who was her buddy for 17 years, and lastly airplanes. Betty never lost her interest in flying and was still carrying her pilot's license, and attending air shows into her 90's. Betty loved Jesus Christ and was a lifelong follower of His since age 10 when she believed and was baptized. For the past fifteen years Betty was a member, as well as the treasurer and organist at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church of Slatington, PA. Surviving her are her son, Brian (Barbara), four grandchildren Benjamin, Laura, Matthew, and Lexi; seven great-grandchildren, Isabel, Emma, Lucy, Abigail, Sarah, Lucy and Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her brothers John Mercier, Art Mercier, and sisters Beverly Jane Miller and Kathryn Rosalie Moore. Betty was also preceded in death by her daughter Stephanie Kern and her husband James W. Kern . Funeral service is at 1:30 Friday March 1, 2024 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery Fort Wayne.
