Carl E. Rexroth, 81, of Fort Wayne, died Monday Oct. 13, 2008 at home. He was born on April 2, 1927 on a farm in rural Hoagland, Indiana. He was the son of Charles and Norma (Clay) Rexroth. He was raised, attended school and worked on the farm in the Hoagland area and joined the Navy in 1945. He married Mary Ellen Relue October 28, 1950 and they raised their 6 children in Fort Wayne. He was in commercial construction most of his working years retiring from Simerman Construction in 1989. He and his wife moved to a lake in northern Indiana where they lived for 11 years making many friends in that area. He loved being outdoors and did yard work as a paying "hobby". They returned to Fort Wayne in 2001 to be nearer to family and friends. He was a member of American Legion Post 499 and loved bowling, IU basketball, playing cards and deeply appreciated "the best 5 neighborhood families a person could ask for". He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen "Mickey" married 58 years this month; son Keith Rexroth, Atlanta, Georgia; Neil (Heidy) Rexroth, Ossian, Indiana; Karen Rexroth, Fort Wayne; Nancy Young, Virginia Beach, Virginia; Linda Cottrell, Atlanta, Georgia; and Laurie Kirkwood, Covington, Kentucky. He has three grandchildren, Scott (Nicole) Rexroth, Fort Wayne; Nathan Cottrell and Natalie Cottrell, both of Fort Wayne; and two great-grandsons, Alex and Logan Rexroth. He is also survived by special friends, Beth Bridge, Fort Wayne and Jim Gillenwater, Atlanta, Georgia; his Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Ralph and Marilyn Relue; two sisters, Luella Richardson, Fremont, Indiana and Betty Mailand, Angola, Indiana; 21 nieces and nephews and long-time friends, Calvin and Janet Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Hazel Hart in 1999 and brother, Raymond Rexroth in 2002.
