Carol Irene Newman, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Sage Bluff Health and Rehab Center. She was born March 22, 1931, one of nine children to Donald and Helen (Clark) Glaze.

Carol graduated from New Haven High School in 1949, where she had been an accomplished cornet player and was once invited to Philo Farnsworth’s studio to play in a sound test. She would have a long and successful career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working for Parkview Randallia for many years and then retiring in 1998 from Veterans Hospital after 11 years of service. She was a great mom and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carol was an avid swimmer, earning a lifeguard certification as young mother and passing the love for swimming on to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Rose Newman-Clevenger, John Newman, Steven (Connie) Newman and Matthew Newman, eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Anweiler and Kay (Doug) Deal. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Norman, a daughter Carmela and six siblings, Jack, Sue, Alice, Larry, Charlie and Ray.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place and she will be inurned at Covington Memorial Gardens.
