Catherine Louise John, 96, passed away at 12:10 p.m., November 10, 2016, at Greystone Assisted Living. The daughter of Ray and Mabel (Palmer) Houser, Catherine was born May 10, 1920, in Roanoke, Indiana. It was there that she met her lifetime love, Dale L. John and they were married at Christ United Methodist Church on May 20, 1940. Dale and Catherine resided in Roanoke and raised their three children there. In later years, the couple split their time between their lakehouse in Rome City, Indiana and their second home in Phoenix, Arizona. They celebrated 65 years of marriage together.
Catherine was dedicated to her church, and enjoyed serving as a youth group leader, church camp cook, alter club, and a member of United Methodist Women. She was most happy spending time with her family, fishing on the lake, sitting in the sun while watching the birds, rooting for her favorite basketball team-the Phoenix Suns, canning, gardening, and cooking. Her family will miss her delicious blueberry pies, potato salad, strawberry jam, and canned pickles. Catherine cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was affectionately known by them as Nanny. She was a wonderful caregiver to many throughout her years, a great teacher, and a hard worker. Catherine enjoyed staying busy and active. She was full of spunk and stubbornness, but equally patient and loving.
Catherine is survived by her son Martin D. (Cathy) John of North Port, Florida; her daughter Pamela S. (Mike) Coe of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren Criss John, Jennifer Savieo, Laura (Brian) Davis, Daniel Reifenberg, and Sarah (Wes) Knuth; great-grandchildren Riley (Tyler) Harris, Kenidee Savieo, Mason John, Adler Davis, Rowan Davis, Ezra Knuth, and Jax Knuth; one niece, and many cousins.
