Obituary

Charles Martin Hoppel, 85, of Fort Wayne, died on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital. The U.S. Marine veteran was a member of the Amvets and American Legion. He retired as a Fire Fighter Captain with the City of Fort Wayne and was a member of the Fort Wayne Professional Fire Fighters Local 124.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary K. Saylor of Fort Wayne; sons, Michael C. Hoppel of Fort Wayne and Martin B. (Paula) Hoppel of Huntertown; two grandchildren, Charles B. Hoppel and Michael J. Saylor; two great grandchildren, Katelyn and Riley Hoppel; and a sister, Charlotte Cox of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joan Hoppel, on June 23, 2006; daughter, Beth Ann Hoppel; brother, James Hoppel; and sister, Flora Fletter.

Funeral service is 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013. He will be laid to rest at Lindenwood Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Fort Wayne Professional Fire Fighters Local 124 - The Fallen Heroes Fund.
