Charles B. Vaughan, 85 of Fort Wayne, formerly of Indianapolis, died February 8, 2007. A native of South Carolina, he was a graduate of Indiana University and a member of its Alumni Association.
A retired journalist, he had worked for three metropolitan newspapers: Louisville, Ky.; Miami, FL.; and the Indianapolis News where he became the business editor. One of his prouder achievements as a journalist was criticizing the Indianapolis Board of Realtors until it admitted its first black members (Gus Hamilton and William Ray).
He later joined Eli Lilly & Co. where for a decade he produced the company''s annual and interim reports to shareholders and was editor of the employee newspaper.
He was a member of the Indiana Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood and the Southern Club of Indianapolis.
Survivors: wife of 62 years Doris, sons Mark (Paula) and Evan (Joan) and four grandchildren, Julia, Ian, Andrew and Alex.
Memorial services will be February 24th at 11:00 a.m. at All Souls Unitarian Church, 5805 East 56th St, Indianapolis, IN 46226.
