Cherie A. Sandel, 77, of Zanesville, died on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at home with her family at her side. She was born in English, Indiana to the late Coloniel and Nellie (Smith) Sarles. She was a seamstress for Custom Mattress when she retired. She just celebrated her 40 year anniversary at the New Haven Moose Lodge. She stayed active going to her grandchildren''s events with her furry friend Macy by her side and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by, sons, Robert Sandel of Zanesville and Jim (Carolyn) Sandel of Fort Wayne; daughter, Julie (Steven) Lee of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Tobias Ward, Lindsey Sandel-Maher, James Sandel, Brittany Sandel, Jonathon Lee and Autumn Lee; and four great grandchildren, Destiny, Ronnie, Devon and Tristen; sisters, Pat Simmerman, Jo Eva Cooke, Mary Sarles and Diane Drennon.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Donald Leroy Sandel, in 2008; son, Rolland Ward, in 1986; and a sister, Carol Sandel.
Funeral service is 11 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Covington Funeral Home, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Patsy Brock will be officiating.
