Clarence E. “Butch” Hoover, passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to Clarence and Sarah (Harward) Hoover.

Butch was a graduate of Elmhurst High School and retired from NIPSCO. He married Virginia A. “Ginny” Shopoff, and they shared 43 years together. She survives.

Butch enjoyed golf, softball, bowling and fishing at the lake house on Shriner Lake. He and Ginny enjoyed traveling to different places including Texas, Hawaii and Las Vegas, where they were married. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch watching people and birds at the feeders.

Surviving are his wife, Ginny; daughter, Jaqueline Hoover; five grandchildren, Joseph (Paige) Fremion, Tiffany Hoover, Joshua Hoover, Jacob Hoover and Sarah Hoover; five great-grandchildren; brother, Forrest (Darlene) Hoover; and sister, Gail Cannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Mark Hoover and Steven Campbell.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at Covington Memorial Gardens.
