Daniel Lee "Smitty" Smith, 55, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at home in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Karl Smith and Shirley (Stansill) Daniels. He was a 1986 graduate of Snider High School. Daniel then attended IPFW and received his Bachelor's degree. Daniel married Stephanie (Laker) Smith on September 10, 1994 and she survives. He worked as an engineer for the Allen County Surveyor's Office. Daniel was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He was very involved in hockey, snow skiing, tennis, racket ball and bowling. Daniel was also an avid golfer. Surviving are his children, Tyler (Kylee) Smith, Brooke (Jason) Nicodemus and Danielle Smith; grandchild, Kezlin; and niece, Allison Wainionpaa. Daniel was also preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Smith. Funeral service 11:00am, Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 E. State Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation also from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, Janaury 26, 2023 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
