David Cyril Mays, 83, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018.  Born in Fort Wayne, he was a son to the late Henry and Estella Mays.  He retired from Kroger after 41 years and was a member of Teamsters 414.  David was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

David is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Carol Ida (Bremer) Mays; children, Gwendolyn "Gwen" (Roger) Sipe of Huntington, Joel (Terrie) Mays Roanoke, Kathleen "Kathy" Douglas of Fort Wayne, Beth Ann Coe Fort Wayne, Michael "Mike" (Kim) Mays of Fort Wayne and Robert Mays of Auburn; brothers, Kenneth Mays of California, Paul Mays of Florida and Steve Mays of Michigan; sisters, Beverly Hewitt of Brazil, Indiana and Phyllis Bush of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, Andrew Sipe, Allison Shaulis, Aaron Sipe, Orion Mays, Cale Mays, Laura Stegall, Jared Douglas, Jeffrey Coe, Nicole Mays, Amber Mays, Lee Mays, Clint Mays and Kyle Mays ; and 20 great grandchildren, Sophia, Elijah, Lilian, Jacob, Elaine, Everett, Sarah, Ashtyn, Brady, Gracie, Annabel, Taylor, Grayson, Lauren, Lexi, Jaden, Cameial, Alexander, Christopher and one on the way.

David was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Rash; son in law, Craig Douglas; daughter in law, Terrie L. (Williams) Mays; and granddaughter, Sarah Douglas.

Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2018 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior.  Calling is also 2-6 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens.  Preferred memorials are to Fort Wayne Honor Flight or St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
