Donald Ray Fifer, 85, of Fort Wayne passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Lutheran Hospital. Born in Jay County, he was the son of the late Homer and Velma (Short) Fifer. He was a member of the Waynedale Church of Christ. The Army Veteran was a member of the American Legion Post 296. He retired from the City of Fort Wayne in 1989 from Water Pollution Control Department after 32 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 67 years, Frances; sons, Loren (Frankie) and Donald Jr. (Donna); daughter, Patricia (Michael) Updike; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Fifer; and a sister, Florence Conrad.
Service is 2 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday. He will be laid to rest a Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial are to the church.
