Donald Ray Konow, 96, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. He was born on February 13, 1930, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the late Walter and Vivian Konow.
Don was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He attended Emmaus Lutheran School and was involved in the Boy Scouts. He then attended Concordia Lutheran High School, graduating in 1948. There he participated and lettered in the ROTC program.
Don proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and also served in the Naval Reserve. Prior to his military service, he attended the General Electric Apprentice School and became a skilled tool and die maker. He then worked for General Electric for 32 years and later worked at Fort Wayne Pools until his retirement in 1992.
Don was an active member of American Legion Post 423 in Orland, Indiana, where he served as Post Commander. In his later years, he enjoyed being part of American Legion Post 47 in Fort Wayne. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and the NRA (National Rifle Association).
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his service, dedication, and the love he had for those around him.
Surviving are his children: David (Tonya) Konow, Daniel (Julia) Konow, Susan Schible, Michele Brothers, and Mark Konow; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Mailand.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Konow; his parents, Walter and Vivian Konow; his brother, Walter Konow; and his in-laws: James and Gertrude Young, Wilmer “Bud” Mailand, Eugene Mailand, and James and Anita Stock.
Services will be held on Thursday July 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at Covington Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A luncheon will follow the services at American Legion Post 47.
Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church and Concordia Lutheran High School ROTC.
