Donald Herman Reidt, 90, passed Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Born in Fort Wayne, he was a son to the late Christian Barney Reidt and Lula Mae (DeTurk) Reidt. Don proudly served his country in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 82 and was also on the Honor Guard. He recently went to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. Don retired from Associated Truck Lines after 32 years of driving. Don loved serving his Lord; he was a devoted member of former West Creighton Ave Christian Church and North Christian Church. Don loved old western shows, taking pictures and was an avid Colts fan.
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Gloria Jean (Ferrier) Reidt; children, Rick (Teri) Reidt of Apollo Beach, Florida, Linda (Gary) Wade of Kendallville, Jeff (Julie) Reidt of Van Wert, Ohio, Scott (Shelia) Reidt of Edgerton, Ohio and Shannon Reidt of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren, Heather (Buddy) Whitaker, Stephen (Cristy) Connellee, Megan (Ron) Dawson, Aaron (Julie) Wade, Randi Rice, Michael (Julie) Reidt, Brad Eber, Keith Krontz, Alex (Joy) Reidt and Shane Reidt,; 19 great grandchildren, Elijah, Noah, Jordan, Aiden, Mitchell, Austin, Jace, Wade, Jaron, Aston, Bella, Jeremiah, Deacon, Lincoln, Daniel, Leah, Ambrose, Rubix and Alexander; and of course his furry friend, Sam.
Don was preceded in death by all of his sisters and brothers, Dorothy Brown, Marge Forrester, Irene Reidt, Helen Smith, Agnes Hartstein, Gert Vela, Roanna Reidt, Jack, Arthur, Dave and Herbert Reidt; grandson, Ryan Rice; and a son in law, Larry Rice.
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Kate Howard. Calling is also 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers preferred memorial are to North Christian Church-Disciples of Christ.
