Donald Lee Wenger, 88, passed on September 8, 2021, at home.  Born August 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Sarah (Mikel) and Fred Wenger, Sr.  He was the seventh child of a family of eight, living on a farm close to Bluffton.  After graduating from Bluffton High School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps for three years.  He earned his Sergeant stripes in just 13 months.  When he returned from service he began working at Indiana Michigan Electric Company.  He worked at I & M for 42 years, retiring in 1992.

Don was an accomplished wood carver (specializing in chip carving) and insisted on keeping it a "hobby".  He was an extremely patient, easy going man and loved having groups come into his home after his retirement.

He leaves behind his wife, Ann Wenger; 3 sons, Donald Jr. (Susan), Danial (Laurie), and Darby; step-daughters, Denise (Rich) Bienz, Jennifer Thorn, and Lisa Ransom; stepson, Daniel (Jennifer) Buskirk; step daughter-in-law, Teresa Buskirk; 19 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his seven siblings; granddaughter, Cassandra Wenger; and stepsons, John Buskirk, and Rob Thorn.

Family will receive friends from 6:00pm - 8:00pm Monday, September 20 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Ft. Wayne, IN.  Memorial service will be at 11:00am Tuesday, September 21, with graveside military honors at 12:00pm also at Covington Memorial.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's name may be made to the charity of your choice, or to Seminary United Methodist Church, 285 N. Seminary Road, Roanoke, IN 46783.
