Edith H Matthews, 77, of Fort Wayne, IN, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at her home. Born as Edith Booth Hadden on October 27, 1929 in Bronxville, NY. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Katharine Wightman Hadden and the grand daughter of the Rev. Percy and Edith (Booth) Wightman and William and Grace (Lay) Hadden and a graduate of St. Lawrence University. She married John E. Matthews on June 21, 1952. She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, a Past President of the Fort Wayne Christmas Bureau, and the Fort Wayne New Comer''s Club, a volunteer for the Aboite River Women''s Club, the Little Turtle Gift Shop and a board member of the East Wayne Street Center. She was a member of the Fort Wayne and Indian Wells Country Clubs where golf, bridge and the friendships they brought were her passion. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother. She is survived by sons, John Thomas (Lisa) Matthews of Overland Park, KS, James P. (Kathy) Matthews of Fort Wayne, IN, William T. (Karen) Matthews of Longmont, CO, and Terrence D. (Gwen) Matthews of Rogers, AR; a daughter, Katharine M. (Robert) Brothers of Roanoke, IN; brothers, Robert (Barbara) Hadden of Williamstown, MA and Alexander (Patricia) Hadden of Woodstock, VT; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband John Matthews and her grandbaby angels Theresa and Beau. Funeral Service Thursday 11 a.m. with calling one hour prior at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church 10700 Aboite Center Rd. officiated by Father Joseph McEvoy of Moynalty, Ireland. Visitation Wednesday 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Private family burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
