Edwin H. White, Jr., 83, of Sebring, Florida and Gilead Lake, Bronson, Michigan, formerly of Fort Wayne, died March 21, 2009 at Highland''s Region Hospital in Sebring. He was born in Ft. Wayne to Edwin H. and Electa (Curless) White on February 3, 1926 and raised on a farm near LaFontaine, IN. He was a 1944 graduate of LaFontaine High School and Indiana University BA 1951 and MA 1959. He retired from Ft. Wayne Community Schools in 1988 with 37 years of service having taught at South Wayne, Indian Village, Northwood, and Lane Middle Schools. He was a member of the Ft. Wayne Retired Teachers and the Indiana Retired Teachers. He belonged to the Ft. Wayne Chapter of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity. He was a WWII veteran, serving 33 months in Europe and was a member of the Orland American Legion Post 423. He was an active member of the Indiana Lions for 50 years. He served as 25B District Governor from 1975-76 and State Council Chairman from 1976-77. He was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1996. He was a member of Buttonwood Bay Community Church, Sebring, FL, Waynedale Masonic Lodge, and Maumee Valley Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Peg Davidson), sons Stephan (Cheryl) and David (Cindy) of Ft. Wayne, granddaughters Allison and Kelsey White, and sister Joanne (Roger) Ranck of Lincolnville. He was preceded in death by brother Robert White and sisters Mary Bosch, Lola Gibson, and Helen Roser. Memorial service is 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd with calling one hour prior. Burial following at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials to Lion''s Eye Bank or American Heart Association.
