Evelyn L. Ladd, 90, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ossian, IN. She was born in Tippecanoe, IN to the late John E. and Lulu (Mitchell) Burgess. She was a graduate of Parkview Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelors of Science from College of St. Francis in Illinois. Evelyn was a nurse from 1952 to 2006 when at that time she retired to help care for her grandchild. During her nursing career, she was a private scrub for Drs. Hastings, Manning and Bossard, she was Interm Director of Emergency Room at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Assistant Director of Nursing at Lutheran Hospital, and Director of Nursing at Caremark Inc and American Nursing. She also owned The Corner Shop in Leo from 1984-1985. Evelyn enjoyed painting, ceramics, and crafts. Above all else she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Surviving are her children, Kathy (Leonard) Braner, Teresa (Doug) Hope, Rosemary (Steve) Karst, Paula (Hunter Robbins) Ladd, and John (J.D. Dobias) Ladd; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nellie Slater, nephew, Steve Slater, and one grandson, Jeremy Karst. Memorial service 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home with memorial visitation from 12:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Myositis Association at myositis.org or Humane Fort Wayne. Burial at a later date in Covington Memorial Gardens.
