Mr. Ferris "Junior" Longest, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died at the age of 92 on Thursday, June 25, 2015.
Ferris was born in English, Indiana, on May 12, 1923. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in World War II in Europe from 1943 to 1945. Over the course of his career as a plant manager, Ferris worked for Old Fort Supply, Hyponex as a National Operations Manager, and Millburn Peat.
Ferris was an avid woodworker and lover of fishing in the Canadian wilderness. Above all, Ferris will be remembered as a strong man of God who devoted his life to serving and loving his family, friends, and neighbors.
He is survived by his beloved wife and saint of 68 years, Betty (Janssen) Longest; children, Roger (Janet) Longest of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Karen Longest (Marshall) Zimmerman of Columbus, Ohio, and Delmar (Sharon) Longest of Stanfordville, New York; 7 grandchildren, Matthew Longest, Erin Coleman, Rachel Longest, Kyle Longest, Brian Zimmerman, Lucas Longest and Christy Zimmerman; and 5 sweet great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Isabela, Elliott and Rory. Ferris is survived by six siblings, Knoefel (Betty) Longest of Remington, Indiana, Berdeen (Roscoe) Peacock of Grand Junction, Colorado, Richard (Donna) Longest of Lafayette, Indiana, Kenneth (Linda) Longest of Lafayette, Indiana, Helen Kay (Jerry) Heimann of Banning, California and Gary (Connie) Longest of Lafayette, Indiana.
Ferris was preceded in death by his father Ferris Longest, mother True (Sturgeon) Longest; and siblings Gene, Larmon, and Gerald Longest.
Funeral service is 1 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 8010 W. Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, with calling two hours prior. He will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Risen Savior Lutheran Church or Alzheimer''s Foundation of America.
