Frederick "Fred" Fletcher Hagadorn, 84, passed on, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Kingston Health Care. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late, Mildred (Miller) Bassett and Edward H. Hagadorn. He was a Central High School Graduate. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1946. He served in the occupation of Germany and was discharged in 1948. He was a member of the American Legion Post 330 and V.F.W. It was during his enlistment that he met his wife, Julia, in Ludwigsburg, Germany and they were married on July 7, 1948. As a plummer, Fred was a member of Local Union 166 for 31 continuous years during which he served as President and Business Manager for several years. Fred spent twenty five years working with his daughter, Rosalyn, at Precision Fabrication. He held "court" daily on IU basketball, Cubs baseball and Bears football at work.
Fred loved reading, mostly history relating to Churchill and Kennedy, listening to music of all genres, doing crossword puzzles in ink and he delighted in his blooming lilies all while enjoying smoking his cigars. Fred enjoyed traveling. He traveled the Blue Ridge several years with his wife, when she was not able to participate he went by himself and then with his brother, Ed. Like Thelma and Louise, Fred and Ed, traveled the Eastern part of Canada, and through several states of the US. Once they were even lost in the Redwood Forrest which was quite a fright. An avid animal lover, Fred enjoyed the company of his two "Duke" schnauzers and his two "Charlies" one a boxer and one a St. Bernard. Most recently he enjoyed watching the birds gather at the feeders outside his windows.
Fred took great joy in the accomplishments of his granddaughter, Nichole. He was very proud when she earned her college degree as she was the first in the family to reach that level of education. He also took pleasure in the fact that his great granddaughter, Maizy, shared his love of reading.
Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia R. (Cioch) Hagadorn; daughter, Julia Rosalyn (Jerry) Isch; granddaughter, Nichole "Niki" Maria Reynolds; great granddaughter, Maizy Ann Reynolds; brother, Edward Hagadorn; half-brother, Jim (Patty) Hagadorn; nieces, Sharon (Terry) Fowler, Linda Lou (Ollie) Butler, Debbie (Roy) Wick, Jamie Hagadorn and Amy Hagadorn; and nephews, Bob (Lisa) Hagadorn and Terry Meyers.
