Gary Lynn Olson, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Parkview Hospital just 6 days short of his 86th birthday.

Gary was born in San Benito, Texas, to Severt and Ethel Olson. He married the love of his life, Ernetta Moore, and together they shared 63 years of marriage, just 10 days short of 64 years.

He worked for many years as a Safety Manager and OSHA Inspector. Gary proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, where he was also a member of the Army baseball team. A gifted athlete, he was once recruited by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed all sports, bowling, and later in life developed a passion for golf, where he achieved several memorable accomplishments, including shooting his age and recording a hole-in-one at Chestnut Hills.

Gary loved traveling and was a faithful member of the Gideons. He loved the Lord and served his church faithfully for many years as a Trustee of the board, Sunday school teacher and song leader. He loved to sing and every night Gary & Ernetta would sing each other to sleep with music from the golden oldies.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ernetta; his daughter, Karyn (Rick) Henvey; and his grandsons, Tate (Nichole) Henvey and Tanner Henvey; and Penelope his great-granddaughter who he absolutely adored. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Olson.

Private family services were held, and Gary was laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Gary will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his service to his country, his lifelong passion for sports and fellowship, and how wonderfully devoted he was to his wife.
