Obituary

George Winans, 86, passed away on December 25, 2023. He was born on April 1, 1937, in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of the late George and Lucille Winans.

George served in both the U.S. Navy and Airforce and was a proud veteran. In his spare time, George enjoyed being outdoors, biking, hiking, sailing and he enjoyed flying. Line dancing and swing dancing were one of his favorite past times. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Roanoke, Indiana.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Sandy Winans; children, Theresa (Larry) Thompson, Tim (Tammy) Winans, Angela (Paul) Parker; step-children, Tammy (Rich) Deel, Todd (Sue) Tonkel and Trisha (Bobby) Comer; grandchildren, B "Ben" (Liz) Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Michael (Emily) Winans, Mary (Mikayla) Winans, Kayla (Tom) Jones, Justin (Crosby) Parker, Jake (Nevaeh) Parker, Winston, Andrew and Alexis Deel, Jessica (Nick) Tucker, Vanessa, Tessa and Anisa Tonkel, Dilon, Noah and Chloe Comer; great-grandchildren, Parker Jones, James and Will Winans; step-great-grandchildren, Izzy, Ari, Zion, and Miles Tucker, Sophia and Layton Neer; sisters, Judy Horstman, Priscilla Knoth, Mary Hamilton, Linda Meyer, and Rose Geisleman.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Winans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Friday, December 29, 2023 with calling one hour prior at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N Main St, Roanoke, IN 46783.

Burial will take place in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN.
