Glenn F. Lebrecht, local music teacher and church choir director, died peacefully on January 24, 2026. He was the loving husband of Ruth Ann (Bracy) Lebrecht with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. He was born November 12, 1930, in Springfield, IL to G. Frank and Leah Lebrecht but grew up in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Hancock High School and earned Bachelor and Master's degrees in music from Millikin University. From 1952-1956, Glenn served in the Navy as a medical technician aboard a destroyer tender. While enlisted, he shared his love of music by directing both vocal and instrumental ensembles in addition to his medical duties.
Following his military service, Glenn taught instrumental music in Decatur, IL; Peoria, IL; and Fort Wayne Community Schools. He played violin/viola in the St. Louis Symphony, Norfolk Symphony, Fall River Symphony Orchestra, Decatur Civic Orchestra, Peoria Symphony and Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Throughout his career, he also taught private string students and was involved in church music programs. He served as Director of Music at Fort Wayne's Christ United Methodist Church for 38 years. Most recently he was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and participated in their adult choir and men's club.
In addition to his devoted wife Ruth Ann, he is survived by son Timothy Lebrecht (Tina) of New Tripoli, PA; daughter Laura Adeli (David) of Aurora, IL; cherished grandchildren Amy Lebrecht, Adam Lebrecht, Michael Adeli, and Lucas Adeli; plus numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at 11:30a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2417 Getz Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00a.m. - 11:30a.m. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church Music Department or Fort Wayne Community Schools Foundation's b Instrumental Program.
