HAROLD P. SCHICKage 89of Ft. Wayne IN, passed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday June 12, 2016 at the Towne House health center. Born September 22, 1926 in Bronx, New York, the son of John Gustave Schick & Frieda Elizabeth Kaiser. He had 3 brothers, John (Sonnyboy''), Robert, and Arthur Schick, and was married to Joyce Ragna (nee Ellsworth) for 46 years prior to her passing in 1999. He first lived in New York when he volunteered for duty in World War II serving with the Tenth Armored Division, and then served with distinction as a First Lieutenant in the Korean War. Harold was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for heroism, one for his WWII service as an armored infantryman and another for his action as a forward observer in the Korean War. He obtained a degree in chemical engineering from City University of New York and later a Master of Science from the University of Akron. He was the head of R&D for General Tire, and served as President of the Society of Plastics Engineers. His career as a Professional Industrial Engineer (P.E.) with GenCorp and Eagle Picher led Harold to reside in Akron OH, Marion IN, and Ft. Wayne.
Harold was an active Stevens Minister at the Trinity English Lutheran Church and served as the Chaplin of the Ft. Wayne Korean War Veterans-Chapter One, annually joining in the Ft. Wayne Memorial Day parade. He volunteered at Lutheran Hospital as an escort, ushered at Embassy Theatre, and was a member and treasurer of the Sons of Norway. As a docent at the Ft. Wayne Children''s Zoo, he brought animals to patients in nursing homes and hospitals. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, supporting his three sons to achieve the rank of Eagle Scouts.
Harold was father of six children--daughters Barbara Moran Corrado & John of Clinton Township MI, Judy Milbrath & Dennis of Grafton WI, Diana (deceased) of Milwaukee WI, and sons Lawrence of Hampstead MD, Gordon & Laura of Santa Clarita CA, and Roland & Robin of Dunwoody GA. He leaves also eleven grandchildren--Wyatt, Wendy, Tom, Lauren, Karen, Joshua, Justin, Jason, Logan, Honor, Sanderson; nine great grandchildren; and special lady friend Rosie Whelchel.
Visitation will be at 9am with memorial services at 11am on Saturday July 16th at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 405 W. Wayne Street. Memorials in lieu of flowers are to the church and Heartland Hospice, 1315 Directors Row, Ste 210 Ft. Wayne. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Towne House Retirement Community & Health Center and Heartland Hospice for all of their loving care of Harold.
