Hedwig "Heddy" Saine, 94, passed away on November 16, 2023. She was born in Kurant, Kreis Drachow, Wolhynien, a German settlement on November 12, 1929. She was a daughter of the late Rudolf and Rosalie Gust.

Heddy arrived in the United States December 13, 1951, through Ellis Island. She then lived in Minnesota for several months before coming to Fort Wayne, Indiana. She met and married the love her life, Frank Saine, at Sherman Street Church of God on March 31, 1956. Heddy became a Naturalized Citizen on May 15, 1957.

During her working years, she worked at Wayne Knitting Mill and Wayne Paper Box. Later in life she worked for the John and Nancy Rogers family. She was strong in her faith and was a devoted Sunday School teacher and loved to sing songs about Jesus with the little children. She was currently a member of The Chapel. More than anything, Heddy cherished spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for spending time gardening, and will be remembered for her pies and cookies.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (David) Joest; grandchildren, Andrew (Christine) Marschand and Katherine (Nicholas) Underwood; great-grandchildren, Aidan, AnnMarie, Alix, Anna, and Vincent; and one great-great-grandchild on the way; as well as one sister and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Saine; and five siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804 with calling from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Burial to immediately follow in Covington Memorial Gardens.
