Howard Eldon. Hirschman, 87, of Fort Wayne, died Monday July 9, 2007 at Hospice Home. Born Feb. 27, 1920 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Charles and Lillian Hirschman. He was a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 40 years and a WW II Army Master Sergeant in the 730th Railway Operating Battalion serving in Iran and the Persian Gulf Command from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of American Legion Post 499, Veterans Association of the Pennsylvania Rail Road, and assisted with the sound system in the Community Center at their home in Englewood, Florida. He was a compassionate caring person who liked helping people and also enjoyed photography and electronics. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hirschman, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Michaeline M. "Mickie" Jones, of Fort Wayne; sisters, Ilo Oliver of Valparaiso, Dorothy (Don) Nichols of Rocky River, Ohio, and Eleanor Ackerman of Fort Wayne; brother-in-law, George (Joan) Monesmith of Fort Wayne; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbra A. Hirschman; and a sister, Catherine Maley. Memorial service Saturday 1 p.m. with calling one hour prior at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Rev. Matthew Stultz officiating. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
