Jack L. Chambers, 79, died Sunday February 14, 2010 at his home. Born in Bloomington, Indiana on May 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Leonard and Edna (Baugh) Chambers. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1970 after 22 years of service and was a Korean War Veteran receiving the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal Silver Clasp. He also retired from GTE as an electronic equipment installer after 10 years of service, and then worked as an independent contractor/installer for another 10 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #47. Jack was a very patriotic person and greatly loved his country. He was a most loving husband and a wonderful father to his children and stepchildren. He always kept his great sense of humor even when he did not feel well. He enjoyed his pets, watching, and feeding birds, and he enjoyed gardening for as long as his health permitted. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jean, their son, Stefhan (Busola) Chambers, children from previous marriage to Patricia Calton, Jackie (Walter) Thomason, Terry (Bruce) Medlock, Edna "Mickey" (Danny) Jantz, Russell Chambers, Scott (Melissa) Chambers, Steven Chambers, and step-children, Donna Caroline- Nichols, and Brent Caroline, 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, brothers Thomas (Betty) Chambers, Wayne (Karen) Chambers, Leonard "Bud" Chambers, sisters Leona Chambers and Peggy (Henry) Crouch. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Bergsten. Services are 1p.m. Sunday February 21at Covington Memorial Funeral Home and calling is Saturday 1-6 and one hour prior to service.
