Obituary

James David Collins, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at home with his family at his side. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was also a member of the V.F.W. #1006. He attended Shoaff Park Baptist Church and was a deacon there. He retired from Indianhead Truck Lines after 33 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia "Ruth"; daughters, Glynda (Jerry) Harris of Fort Wayne, and Denita (Eric Laine) Smith of Katy, TX; brother, Sammy (Peggy) Collins of Jackson, TN; four grandchildren, James Babbitt, Kristen Pickelheimer, Amy Portee and Max Smith; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eva Collins, and three sisters.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials are to Disabled American Veterans.
