James "Jim" Frank Andrews, 97, died, Monday, April 6, 2015 at Bethlehem Woods Nursing Center. The Fort Wayne native was the son of the late, Nelson R. Andrews and Lillian (Evard) Andrews. He graduated from South Side High School. Jim proudly served his country in the Navy, as an Aircraft Mechanic during WWII; and then served his community as a Detective Sergeant for the Fort Wayne Police Department. He was recognized as the "Most Friendliest Policeman." Jim was the oldest retired FW Police Officer. After his retirement from the PD, he was head of investigations and security for Lincoln National Bank. He was a member of the FOP and a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, outboard motor repair, listening to the radio and television.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Eleanor E. (Bakalar) Andrews; son, Richard (Diana) Andrews of Fort Wayne; daughters, Verene Miller of Columbus, Ohio, Barbara (Jack) Blombach of Louisville, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Lola Mennewish and Lyda Weidelman.
Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 7710 East State Blvd., with calling one hour prior. Rev. Steven Ahlersmeyer will be officiating. Calling is also 2-6 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road. He will be laid to rest at 2 p.m., at Covington Memorial Gardens with honors. Preferred memorials are to the church.
