James W. Kern, 82 of Slatington, PA, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on November 16, 2009 in the presence of his loving wife and son. He was born March 21, 1927 to Moses and Elma Kern of Bedford, IN. Jim was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church of Slatington, PA where his son Brian serves as senior pastor. He was a watchmaker/clockmaker in the Fort Wayne area for over 28 years, and retired as owner/operator of Kern's Time Center in 1990. Bettie and he shared 18 years of retirement in Fort Myers, Florida where they enjoyed their fruit trees, fishing, touring the flea markets and leisurely times with friends. Jim was an avid fisherman and gardner, his specialty being growing great tomatoes. He also was a licensed pilot since his teenage years, and never lost his fascination for flying. SURVIVORS: Wife Bettie of Slatington, PA, son Brian and wife Barbara of Germansville, PA, grandchildren Benjamin and wife Amy of Bethlehem, PA, Laura of Emmaus, PA, Matthew of Philadelphia, PA and Lexi at home. Brother Louis E. "Corky" Kern of Bedford, IN. He was predeceased by a daughter Stephanie, and two brothers Kenneth and Thomas Kern. SERVICE: Family and friends are invited to call 12-2 PM on Saturday November 21 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd. Fort Wayne, IN. The funeral service will be at 2 @ PM.
