Jerry T. Gunder, 77, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at his home. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Frederick and Marietta Gunder. He retired from Slater Steel in 1996 with over 30 years service. He was the meat manager and one of the best meat cutters at Aveys. He was on the Central High School Class Reunion Committee and past president of the Neighbor Hood Association. He was an avid fisherman, a pure, kind, gentle father, grandfather, great grandfather, you are loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Renee and Dennis Smith of Lantana, Florida, Colleen and Frederick Truden of Elk Grove, California, Rhonda and Michael Jennings of Bluffton and Janine and Shawn Moriarity of Monroeville; one sister, Bondell Leighty of Kendallville; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Smith, Eric (Ashley) Smith, Zebediah Moriarity, Marietta (Jason) Huhn, Joshua and Kristen Jennings; and three great grandchildren, Camren, Alyiah and Hailey Huhn.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Janice R. Gunder in 2007; twin brother, James Gunder; and sister, Helen Bremer.
Service is 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at The Journey FMC, 3536 West Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road. Memorials are to the Northeast Allen County Cancer Society, Parkview Home Health & Hospice or Central High School Alumni Scholarship Fund.
