Joan Knapp, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Monday, January 2, 2023 at StoryPoint Senior Living, in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born in Fort Wayne to the late Lafayette and Matilda (Burkamp) Trautman. Joan married Delmar "Jim" Knapp in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2004. Together they owned Knapp Insurance Agency for 35 years, retiring in 1983. Joan was a faithful member of St. Michael Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, and Chapter Chairman of Northeast Indiana March of Dimes. She was also on the board of Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran Education Association, and Emmanuel-St. Michael School Board. Previously Joan was also president of St. Joe Women's Auxilliary. Joan was a woman of strong faith and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and alongside Jim, they produced a number of dance events through J&J Productions. She also loved playing Bridge. Surviving are her children, Tim (Gayle) Knapp and Brad (Leoni) Knapp; grandchildren, Hannah Knapp, Aaron (Erin) Knapp, Monika Knapp, and Erik Knapp; and great-grandchildren, Victoria and Elizabeth. Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, Darwin Trautman and Pete Trautman; and sister, Patricia Waterson. Funeral service 11:30am, Friday, January 6, 2023 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804 with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel-St. Michael Lutheran School. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
