IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jody L.
(Barton) York
March 4, 1972 – March 28, 2026
Jody L. Barton-York, 54, born on March 4, 1972, and raised in St. Clair, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2026, in Fort Wayne. Jody was a lively, adventurous spirit — a true country boy with a big personality — whose warmth, humor, and unmistakable energy left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jody lived life with curiosity, confidence, and a natural magnetism that made him the center of attention wherever he went. He rooted for the underdog, championed people who needed a voice, and carried himself with a boldness that made him unforgettable. He loved classic rock, old cars, and especially the simple joy of lying by the pool or taking road trips with his partner, Jason.
Jody held various jobs throughout his life, but in recent years, he found great fulfillment as the property manager for the couple’s investment properties, including an apartment building. His creativity thrived in interior design and historic preservation. He had a remarkable eye for detail and a passion for revitalizing old spaces. His work restoring an 1891 home with Jason reflected both his respect for history and his innovative, artistic vision. Every room he touched bore a piece of his personality — bold, thoughtful, and full of heart.
Jody’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He was authentic, outspoken, and unapologetically himself.
He is survived by his partner, Jason York; his siblings John (Cathy) Barton, Angela (Tim) Ritter, Scott (Lisa) Barton, and Vicki (Karl) Harms; his stepmother, Kay Barton; and his half-brothers Levi Barton and Eli Barton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Joann Barton. Jody was also a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Jody’s wishes, he will be cremated and buried beside his beloved mother, Joann, at the Barton Family Cemetery near Boss, Missouri, in Mark Twain State Park, in the coming weeks, returning home to the place and family he cherished.
