John James Deaton, 95, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 at home in Fort Wayne, IN. Born in Morris Fork, Kentucky, John was a son to the late Edward and Martha (Morris) Deaton.  He married Ada Burns and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2017. John served honorably in the United States Army as a military policeman. He was on the Allen County Sherriff's Reserve from 1968-1988 and drove semi-truck for over 40 years. When John was not working, he enjoyed working on cars. Surviving are his sons, Melvin Deaton, Ronald (Vickie) Deaton, James (Leslie) Deaton and Michael Deaton; and grandson, Jarrod Deaton. John was also preceded in death by brothers, Lester, Vern and Samuel; and sisters, Mary Louis, Alice, Vesta Ellen, Myree and Grace Christine. Funeral service 1:00pm, Friday, July 12, 2024 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Covington Memoria Funeral Home. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
