Obituary

John Lee Hamil passed away peacefully into the loving care of his Lord on November 20, 2023, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on May 14, 1937, in Thomaston, Georgia, John was the son of the late Eulas and Bessie (Smith) Hamil. He graduated from Muskegon High School in Muskegon, Michigan, and attended Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan, and the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. John was a devoted husband to his wife of 67 years, Geraldine (VanderKooi) Hamil, and a loving father to his three sons, Brian Hamil (Amy), Kevin Hamil, and Daniel Hamil (Rhonda). He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was a printer by trade and was employed at Mark-Pack in Muskegon, Michigan, for 36 years until he retired in 2000. A man of deep faith and love for the church, John served in various leadership roles at Mona Shores Baptist Church, Norton Shores, Michigan; Calvary Baptist Church, Muskegon, Michigan; and Central Baptist Church, Crossville, Tennessee. He was most recently a member of Oak Park Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He served for many years on the state board for Child Evangelism Fellowship of Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and his sibling, James Hamil (Jan). John was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Anne Christine Venlet, Carol Dean, Francis Sebright, and Clifford Hamil. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 9:30 AM at Oak Park Church, 14922 Illinois Rd, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Park Church in John's honor. John will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered for his commitment to his faith, endearing kindness, and love for his entire family.
