John "Jim" Milburn Mabe, 83, of Fort Wayne, died on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Born in Greenville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Earl and Pauline Mabe; stepmother, Hilma Mabe, after his mother''s death. The Army veteran was a member of the American Legion Post 47. He retired from Tokheim in 1992, after 37 years of service. He was a hard worker through life and in retirement; he loved to garden and pass out tomatoes to everybody.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Susie (Shepherd) Mabe; sons, James (Susan) Mabe and Jason Mabe both of Fort Wayne; daughters, Lorena Mabe of Monroeville, Jeanette (Scott) Schmidt of Hoagland, Jonna Sorrell and Denise (Dave) Conner both of Fort Wayne; brother, WM.G. (Shirley) Mabe; sister, Fannie Kate King; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grand children.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Mabe.
Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 2, 2013 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-6 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to American Heart Association or Diabetes Association.
