John Suarez, born April 14, 1941 in Monterrey, Mexico was the 6th child born to the late Tomas and Rosa Suarez. In 1955 the family moved from Mexico to the United Sates. John was 14 yrs old when they first came to U.S. Their first home was located in Dallas, Texas, where they all worked hard in the cotton and tomato fields. The family moved several times before settling down in 1959 on a farm in St. Joe, In. John was 18 when he got his first job working at Sechler''s Pickles. Over the next few years he worked very hard (as he always did!) moving up and becoming a floor manager there. In 1961 he met and fell in love with Felisitas Pena. Soon, there after they were married in February 1962. On February 3rd, 1963 Felisitas gave birth to the 1st of three children, Clarissa Suarez. In 1965 John would become an American citizen with the help of his previous boss Mr. Frank Sechler himself. In that same year they gave birth to their second child, Patricia Suarez on September 18, 1965. Their third child John Suarez Jr. was born July 31, 1966. For several years John worked two jobs to provide for his family. One of those jobs was in construction, which little did he know would lead him to a better career opportunity with the union. He became a Business Agent for the Laborer''s International Union of North America Local213 in 1978-1981, and Secretary of Treasurer from 1981-1984. In 1984 he became Business Manager for Local 213 until he retired in 2004. He was a man of many great talents and over the years has belonged to many organizations. He was a board member for the Washington house for six years. He was on the board of Family & Children Services for three years. For ten years he served as the President of the NE Indiana Building Trade Council. He was an officer for the District Council, Executive Board Member for the District Council and Trustee for the Labors Pension Fund. He served as a board Member of Liuna Latino Caucus and has been a member of board of Public Works since 2002. He was also a man of God. He was the Superintendent of Sunday School and an Elder of the Templo El Lirio De Los Valles. On April 3, 2008 he was preceded in death by his wife Felisitas. Later in December of 2008 he married his current wife Patricia, and through this marriage he gained two more sons and a daughter, Juan, Andres and Maribel. He loved ALL of his family and leaves behind six children, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. John Suarez was well respected and has touched many lives. He will be greatly missed by all. Service is 10:00 a.m. Thursday April 12, 2012 at Templo El Lirio De Los Valles Church 2032 Morris St. Ft. Wayne, IN. There will be calling Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Preferred Memorials to the Church.
