Joseph Ward Barney, 83, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Joe was born in Fort Wayne, to the late Lewis Joseph Barney and Marie (Kraner) Barney. He was drafted in the Army in 1957. Joe was a service writer for C&P Machine for over 20 years and a member of the South West Conservation Club. Joe enjoyed spending his time at Pawster Park with his dog, Annie.

Joe is survived by his two children, Jeff (Molly) Barney of Roanoke and Jo Lynn "Buffy" (Charles) Melton of Fort Wayne; only brother, Lowell (Pat) Barney of Fort Wayne; 8 grandchildren, Jeffery Barney, Bradley (Jaclyn) Gerow, Samantha Sorg, Joseph Melton, Phillip Melton, Charlie (Dani) Melton, Jonathan Melton and Lynnsey (Kierston) Phillips; and four great grandchildren, Silas, Regan, Kit and Kam.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis L. Barney, on May 18 2013.

Funeral Service is 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling two hours prior. Officiating will be Chaplain Peter Janzen. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens with military honors. Preferred memorials are to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control or Allen County Cancer Services.
