Joseph M. Bowland, 71, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 24, 1954, in Fort Wayne to Edward and Sarah Bowland. Joe married the love of his life, Rhonda Morton, and they shared 32 wonderful years together.
Joe was a kind, genuine man who believed in living a simple life and treating everyone with friendship and respect. He had a way of making people feel welcome and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joe’s warmth and genuine nature made him someone people could count on, and his presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—bowling, golfing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. After a day of activities, Joe especially enjoyed sitting back and relaxing with a cold Miller Lite.
Above all, Joe treasured his family. His granddaughter, Hazel, held a particularly special place in his heart. She brought tremendous joy to his life. He cherished every moment they shared and took great joy in watching her grow. The love he had for his family was evident in the time he spent with them and in the memories, they will carry with them always.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Rhonda; his children, Nicole (Craig) Fischer and Matt (Shannon) Hanes; his cherished granddaughter, Hazel Fischer; and his brother, Jim (Nancy) Bowland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sarah Bowland, and his sister, Cathy Bowland.
Joe will be remembered for his kind heart, easygoing nature, and the simple, meaningful life he shared with those he loved. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
There will be a memorial visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
