June 3, 1933 – February 3, 2025
Joseph C. Huguenard Sr., 91, of Ft. Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Saint Anne Communities. Joe had been surrounded by loving family all day. Born in Allen County, on June 3, 1933, he was the son of the late Clarence and Bernadette (Gerardot) Huguenard. Joe attended New Haven High School and then began his lifelong career as a truck driver; working for Eastern Express, Carnaco Transport, a subsidiary of Carnation Company, retiring from Nestle Corporation after 43 years on the road.
After retiring, Joe and his wife, Phyllis enjoyed playing Bingo a couple of nights a week and went square dancing often, sometimes performing for audiences. They also loved to play cards with family and friends. Joe and Phyllis traveled to their home in Palmetto, Florida every winter for over 20 years where Joe joined the shuffleboard team and played every day. They formed lasting friendships with their neighbors in the community and were anxious every year to drive down and see everyone.
Joe is survived his six children, Steve (Elaine) Huguenard of Columbia City, Ron (Doris) Huguenard and Stan Huguenard, of Fort Wayne, Joe (Lisa) Huguenard Jr., of Thonotosassa, Florida; daughters, Jeannette Huguenard of Shipshewana, IN and Julie Kerns of New Haven; siblings, Helen Bandelelier, Louis (Lynne) Huguenard, Joan Pranger, Delores (Jim) Bowers, Rita Fry, John Huguenard, Judy Huguenard and sister-in-law, Geraldine Huguenard. Joe is also survived by 14 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by Phyllis in 2021; his wife of over 35 years and his siblings, Robert, Virgil, Donald, Lavon, Francis, Bernon, Mary Ann, Regina (Jeannie), Teresa and Monica.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, with calling from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46804.
Burial will take place in St. Louis Besancon Catholic Cemetery, 15535 Lincoln Highway E., New Haven, IN.
