Joseph "Joe" R. Van Wald, 31, passed away Saturday May 4, 2013. He was born August 12, 1981. "When Joe was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) at 21 months old, doctors at Riley Hospital told us Joe wouldn''t live to be a teenager. With God''s help, family and friends support, and prayers we proved the doctors wrong". Joe lived to be 31. Joe was a 2000 graduate of Angola High School. He loved Cedar Point, volleyball, and Karaoke.

Surviving: mother, Cathy (Dan "Evan") Galey, father, Donald (Patty) Van Wald, sisters, Shayna Jo (Kelly) Van Wald, Carrie (Drew) Juvan, nephews, Jacob & William, maternal grandmothers, Jean "Maudie" Lahrman, Thelma Roah, Godfather, Jay Lahrman, Godmothers, Erin Newport & Jean Flaugh, and dog, Baxter. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Clarence F. "Jr." Lahrman, paternal grandparents, Arthur E. and Marjorie R. Van Wald, uncle, Clarence F. (Rick) Lahrman III, cousin, Beau Lahrman and dog Athena.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 9, 2013 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. with calling one hour prior. Calling Wednesday May 8, 2013 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials to CF Foundation or Make-A-Wish Foundation. Burial to follow at Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
