Weldon "J.R." Cox, 86 passed Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Heritage Park. Born in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Weldon, Sr. and Opal Cox. He served his country in the USMC and was a member of the American Legion Post #215. He retired from Zollner Corp as a machine operator after many years of service, he was the owner of JR Colonial Rib Bar and in retirement he worked as a security guard with the Pinkerton Company.
He is survived by sons, Gary (Pat) Cox of Howe and Ron (Kathy) Cox of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryann, Kevin, Kaitlin, Meghan and Erin; thirteen great grandchildren, Gavin, Drake, Emily, Thomas, Kevin, Maria, Elizabeth, Lily, Lilah, Matthew, Irelyn, Paisley and Christian; brothers, Ralph, Paul and Earl; sisters, Mary White and Shirley Stahlhut.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn White.
Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Covington Funeral Home, with one hour of calling prior. Officiating will be Chaplain Fred Meuter. Calling is also 4-8 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2017 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to Lagrange County Council on Aging.
