Junior Jerden Hunley, 93, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky he was a son to the late Oscar Hunley and Sadie (Ellison) Young. Early in life he had worked in the coal mines and then later retired from construction work with over 35 years of service.
Junior is survived by his children, Johnnie (Sang) Hunley of Albion, Rick Hunley of Fort Wayne, Sam (Nikki) Hunley of Fort Wayne, Genida (Bob) Trigg of Fort Wayne, Bobbie Sue (Ron) Smithson of Churubusco and Lois (Bill) Jones of Churubusco; daughter in law, Sandy Hunley of Albion; 26 grandchildren, Rhonda, Chris, Daniel, Samuel, Simon, Sara, Emily, Teresa, Tracy, Donald D.J., Cindy, Veronica, Ron Jr., Selda, Jennifer, Shallena, Billy Jr., John, Jamie, Michelle, Dominic, Sofia, Danelle, Nathan, Haleigh and Noah; 58 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren; brother, Lawrence "Dommer" Hunley of Tennessee; and sisters, Bertha Damon and Mary Allen both of Kentucky.
Junior was preceded in death by his wife of over 51 years, Genittie (Ward) Hunley, in 1995; sons, Curtis, Luther Sr., Luther Jay "Butch" and Jackie Ray; grandsons, Stephen and Curtis; great granddaughters, Amy and Tabitha; and a brother, Charles Hunley.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Officiating will be Pastor Gene Branscomb. Calling also 2-6 p.m., Monday, January 1, 2018 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Riley Children's Hospital.
