Kermit B. Leininger, 94, of Winona Lake and formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Born in Akron, Indiana in 1916, he was the son of the late Charles and Bernice (Blue) Leininger. He attended Beaver Dam High School and played on the Basketball team when they went to the state finals in 1933 & 34. He graduated from Manchester College with a Bachelors and then Indiana University with a Masters in Education. Kermit was a dedicated teacher for 17 years. He was a principle for 24 years in the various schools in Fort Wayne including 11 years at Harrison Hill. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lions Club and also belonged to the Teachers Retirement Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Maxine of Winona Lake; sons and daughters in law, Dr. Steve and Dr. Mary Beth Leininger of Lawrence, Kansas, Robert Leininger of Fort Wayne, and Daniel and Cynthia Leininger of Winona Lake; five grandchildren, Nick (Anne) Leininger, John Leininger, Jaclyn (Davin) Scott, Courtney Leininger and Eric Leininger; one great grandson, Graham Leininger.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Louise Bucher and Eleanor Malott.
Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling two hours prior. Pastor Scott Carmer officiating. He will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to the Indiana Blind Association or the Calvary United Methodist Church.
