Leda "Lee" Kuczeruk Melching, 67, passed away Wednesday June 18, 2014 after a courageous fight with cancer. Leda retired in 1999 from GTE/Verizon with 28 years of service. She was born August 18, 1946 in Neunhausen, Germany to Jacob and Nina Kuczeruk. They immigrated to America in 1951 and started their lives in Nappanee, Indiana. Being sponsored by the Mennonite Church they lived their whole lives there. The family belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Goshen, Indiana. Leda graduated from East Side High School in 1964 and moved to Fort Wayne and attended and graduated from International Business College. Leda had a zest for life and in years past enjoyed many vacations and antique shopping with her husband. Leda enjoyed interior decorating, getting together with her wonderful and caring friends for shopping, luncheons and day trip excursions.
Surviving are her husband, Dennis Robert Melching, brother Terry Lee (Ellen) Kuczeruk of Indianapolis, Indiana, nephew Jake Kuczeruk of California, and niece, Emma of Illinois, she adored her family, and especially had a big loving heart for Jake and Emma. Leda was preceded in death by her father, Jacob in 1987 and mother, Nina in 2010.
Honoring Leda''s request there will be no calling or service. The family has held a private service with Father Andrew Jarmus from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church to officiate. Entombment was in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home or donor''s choice.
