Leona Kathleen (Kathe) Smith (Sarasien), passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, May 26, 2023. She was born on January 12, 1953 in Fort Wayne to Harry Joseph Sarasien Jr. and Elva Jeanne Sarasien (Morgan). Kathe attended Martinsville High School. She married Roy Smith in 1985, and traveled the country with him as they drove a semi. She loved to garden, camp, and fish. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and Nana. Kathe dedicated her life to caring for others, and her loving presence will be forever missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son William M. Kahn of Portland, OR; step-son, David R. (Marj) Smith; siblings, Melinda S. (Sue) Bowling of Fort Wayne, Sandra J. Sarasien of Fort Wayne, and Daniel A. (Lisa) Sarasien of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Reese Kahn, Bert Kahn and Kelly Kahn of Portland, OR, Katelyn Smith, and Atticus Dean of Fort Wayne, IN; nieces and nephews, Harry J. Sarasien IV, Angie Kintz, Jessica Cochran, Jonathon Mohr, Lyla (Justin) Dean, Deanna Vinson, DJ Dawkins, Dusty Dawkins, and Stacy Hull. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Smith; son, Tim Smith; siblings, Harry J. Sarasien III, Charlene Sarasien and John Swinehart,;and granddaughter, Breanna Smith. Kathe did not wish to have a service, but her family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Covington Memorial Funeral Home.
